  Early 20th century sterling silver cigarette box manufactured by David Andersen, Norway. The box has an silver and gilded insert to separate the content. The lid of the box is very nicely decorated in black, red and blue with bell-shaped flowers and leaves. The center of the lid has a symmetrical decoration in gold. The box is completely gilded on the inside, of which the gilding is slightly jaded at the bottom edge.

  David Andersen (25 de mayo de 1843 - 3 de agosto de 1901) fue un orfebre noruego.

  Nació en Østre Toten (en Innlandet) de Anders Svendsen y Anne Margrethe Gulbrandsdatter, y fue el padre del orfebre Arthur David-Andersen.

  Desde 1859 estuvo de aprendizaje con el joyero Jacob Tostrup en Christiania (ahora llamada Oslo). Pasó varias temporadas en el extranjero, en Berlín, Estocolmo, París y Londres. Durante su estancia en Londres también importó obras de filigrana noruega al Reino Unido.

  Estableció su propio taller de orfebrería en Christiania en 1876, que finalmente se convirtió en una empresa líder en la industria de la orfebrería en Noruega.

  Una parte importante de sus obras de filigrana se exportó a Gran Bretaña. En 1899, su empresa empleaba a 92 hombres y 29 mujeres.
