Lodewijk Johannes Kleijn (1817-1897) - Wintergezicht

Lodewijk Johannes Kleijn was a Dutch painter in oil paint, watercolor and lithography. Kleijn was born in Loosduinen in 1817 as the son of the shoemaker Pieter Klein and Wilhelmina van der Post. He was a pupil of Andreas Schelfhout. His subjects were landscapes, especially winter and forest landscapes, animal representations, city and seascapes. Kleijn belonged to the Dutch romantics. Klein mainly painted in The Hague and surroundings. Around 1840 he stayed and painted in Kleve for some time. Paintings from Kleijn's are at the collections of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Gemeentemuseum The Hague and the Museum Rotterdam. Kleijn married Kaatje van Dijk in The Hague on 20 May 1846. Como alumno de Andreas Schelfhout, Kleijn pintó muchos paisajes invernales con patinaje artístico y trineos sobre hielo reflectante. También realizó escenas de ríos y playas de verano y paisajes panorámicos en los que transmite infaliblemente el ambiente tranquilo y la luz cálida de los días de la temporada. En 1840 permaneció un tiempo en Kleve, Alemania, pero no se sabe si fue a ver a B.C. Koekkoek. No hay evidencia concreta de que haya recibido lecciones en la academia de dibujo de este último. Solo algunas de sus pinturas, que representan motivos de la ciudad y el área alrededor de Kleve, confirman el tiempo que Kleijn pasó en esta ciudad.
