    Edward Antoon Portielje (1861-1949) - Back from fishing

    Edward Antoon Portielje, a Belgian painter, born in Antwerp in an artist family. He was taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp by Charles Verlat. As impressionism grew stronger, Portielje continued to paint in a realistic way. He often chose genre scenes and anecdotal subjects from society, but also made this particularly beautiful beach scene, the return of fishing. Striking about this work, oil on canvas, is not only the impressive cloud and light scene, but also the signature. This work has been signed twice, both right and bottom left.

    Edward Antoon Portielje, pintor belga, nacido en Amberes en una familia de artistas. Charles Verlat le enseñó en la Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Amberes. A medida que el impresionismo se hizo más fuerte, Portielje continuó pintando de manera realista. A menudo eligió escenas de género y temas anecdóticos de la sociedad, pero también realizó esta escena de playa particularmente hermosa, el regreso de la pesca.
