The Belgian / Dutch painter Raoul Hynckes (1893-1973) initially painted mostly impressionistic harbors along the Belgian and Dutch coast and the IJsselmeer, like the river face. In 1914 he was conscripted to the front, but shocked by the violence of war, he deserted and fled to the neutral Netherlands where he continued to live the rest of his life. In 1924 he ended up in an artistic crisis. He broke with Impressionism and destroyed much of his work. In the thirties of the last century, he began painting still lifes in an extremely fine and meticulous style of painting. He is considered one of the Magic Realists and is represented in the collections of Museum MORE, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Arnhem Municipal e.v.a ..

Raoul Hynckes (1893, Bruselas - 1973, Blaricum, Países Bajos) fue un artista holandés de ascendencia belga.
Fue pintor, pastelista, pintor decorativo, ilustrador, grabador, diseñador gráfico, leñador, diseñador de muebles. Estudió en la Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts (Academia de Bellas Artes) de Bruselas de 1907 a 1912. Pintó principalmente en un estilo impresionista (árboles muertos, bodegones con calaveras, etc.). Desde la década de 1930 perteneció al Magisch Realisme (Realismo Mágico).
Pintó bodegones, paisajes urbanos, vistas de pueblos, vistas de puertos, figuras, retratos, autorretratos. También produjo carteles, postales, ilustraciones de libros infantiles.
Alrededor de 1916, Hynckes diseñó carteles para Philips, también publicados como postales.
Desde 1923, fue miembro del Hollandsche Kunstenaars Kring (Círculo de artistas holandeses).
En 1973, recibió el Gemeentelijke Cultuurprijs Hilversum.
Escribió un libro autobiográfico, titulado De vrienden van middernacht, publicado en 1974 (De Arbeiderspers, Privé-Domein, número 24).
Sus obras se encuentran en las colecciones del Museo Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Arnhem; Museo MÁS, Gorssel. Hynckes es un importante pintor holandés.
