Ferenc Gögös (1936-2011), born in Budapest, came to the Netherlands in 1957, when his freedom was threatened in his homeland. He enrolled at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem to study painting and graphic arts. His works are composed of signs, messages that communicate their meaning. The image replaces language. If one emerges oneself into the works, one discovers several recognizable images, like a man, a woman, a deer, a bird or a tree. Other signs only make sense in combination with the surrounding images. Darts, zigzags, edges, and straight lines connect these symbols. Gögös symbols relate to popular arts or “primitive” arts which gives them a universal character. His Hungarian origins can be sensed especially in the early works. Tingling color planes comprising monumental signs are witness to a great sensibility for materials and colors.

Ferenc Gögös (Budapest de 1936 - Oosterbeek de 2011) emigró de Budapest a los Países Bajos en 1957 porque no podía vivir en libertad en su tierra natal, Hungría. Asistió a la Academia de Artes de Arnhem, donde estudió pintura y artes gráficas.
Estaba especialmente interesado en signos y símbolos. Gögös dibujó y pintó carteles y mensajes en los que la imagen reemplazó al lenguaje. Estas imágenes son identificables y sencillas: un ciervo, un hombre, una mujer, un árbol o un pájaro.
Las flechas, las líneas en zigzag, las barras angulares y las líneas rectas los conectan. Los símbolos de Gögos demuestran afinidad con las artes primitivas, lo que les da un carácter universal.
Ferenc Gögös expuso con frecuencia en los Países Bajos y en el extranjero, entre otros en Arnhem, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Gante, Budapest, Kioto, Corea del Sur, California y Ohio (EE. UU.) Y en la feria de arte de Basilea.
