- Sobre la obra de arteThis magnificent vase was manufactured by Amphora from Turn-Teplice which at that time belonged to the Austrian Empire. Amphora is known for the production of high quality decorative porcelain objects in Art Nouveau style and was founded by Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel in the year 1892.
The vase is made in ivory porcelain and shaped in a typical symbolist Art Nouveau representation. The vase stands on a widened base and has an embossed decoration of sirens, flowers and tadpoles swimming up from the depths in the water to the sirens that are at the surface. The symbolism behind this representation is centered on fertility, transformation and happiness.
The underwater representation is rendered with a slightly iridescent glaze. Whereas the overwater representation is rendered in a green paint with accents in gold paint.
The base has a stamp of “Amphora”.
Condition: Excellent condition, production crack at the base

La fábrica de Azulejos y Fayence Amphora en el municipio holandés de Oegstgeest fue fundada en 1908. Chris van der Hoef realizó varios diseños importantes alrededor de 1908. Realizó diseños con una decoración geométrica simple entrelazada con líneas y cajas de color en el llamado estilo Art Nouveau. La fábrica se cerró en 1933.
Fue fundada por los Sres. Van Sillevoldt y Perelaer. Se hicieron conocidos, entre otras cosas, por un esmalte especial que no crujía o apenas crujía. En la región de Holanda-Rijnland, se establecieron hornos de cal y fábricas de cerámica a lo largo del Viejo Rin, utilizando la arcilla extraída de los pólderes circundantes, con la que se fabricaban ladrillos, tejas y productos de cerámica. Tras la quiebra de la fábrica de Rozenburg en La Haya, Amphora se hizo cargo de parte de la materia prima. El famoso pintor de cerámica Sam Schellink también se puso a trabajar para Amphora y pintó muchos objetos hermosos de porcelana de cáscara de huevo allí. El artista Theodorus Verstraaten también trabajó para la empresa. Pieter Groeneveldt y Chris Lebeau recibieron lecciones de giro de Gerrit de Blanken alrededor de 1923.
