Jan van Ravenswaay (1789 – 1869) was a 19th-century landscape painter from the Northern Netherlands. He was born in the town of Hilversum
He was the son of a cotton mill owner in Hilversum. He studied drawing with Jordanus Hoorn in Amstersfoort, before following lessons from Pieter Gerardus van Os. He traveled in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland before becoming a member of the Royal Academy of Art in Amsterdam. He won an honorable mention for a landscape in a competition at Felix Meritis in 1818. In 1832 he became a member of the artist society Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam.

Jan van Ravenswaay (1789-1869) fue un pintor de paisajes del siglo XIX del norte de los Países Bajos. Ravenwaay nació en Hilversum e hijo del propietario de una fábrica de algodón. Después de estudiar dibujo con Jordanus Hoorn en Amersfoort, fue aprendiz del pintor y grabador Pieter Gerardus van Os. Viajó a Bélgica, Alemania y Suiza, antes de ser nombrado miembro de la Real Academia de Arte de Ámsterdam. Recibió una mención honorífica por un paisaje en un concurso en Felix Meritis en 1818. En 1832 Jan se convirtió en miembro de la sociedad de artistas Arti Sacrum en Rotterdam. Ha realizado exposiciones en Haarlem, Amsterdam, La Haya y Leeuwarden. Su trabajo está incluido en el Rijksmuseum y Mu-seum Fodor en Amsterdam, Teylers Museum Haarlem, Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller Otterlo, Goois Museum Hilversum, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam.
