    Large covered vase by RAM Arnhem, designed by Theodor Colenbrander. 60 cm high. Dated 23 September 1922. This vase was the top model and decoration of the pottery factory RAM specially established for Colenbrander. With this decor 'kathedraal' they won the gold medal at the world exhibition in Paris in 1925; Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. This copy is made in the opaque enamel, preferred by Colenbrander. Very rare.

    Theodoor (Theo) Christiaan Adriaan Colenbrander nació en Doesburg en 1831 y murió pocos kilómetros más adelante en la ciudad más pequeña de los Países Bajos: Laag-Keppel en 1930. Fue un arquitecto, ceramista y pintor de placas y diseñador holandés. Se caracterizó por ser el primer diseñador industrial holandés. Desde 1884 hasta 1888 fue diseñador y director artístico en la fábrica de placas Plateelbakkerij Rozenburg en La Haya. Sus llamativos diseños presentaban formas distintivamente irregulares y extravagantes motivos decorativos, generalmente abstractos de la naturaleza y ejecutados en una paleta expresionista. De 1921 a 1924 trabajó para Ram Plateelbakkerij, que solo produjo diseños de Colenbrander. Este fue su verdadero avance como diseñador y ceramista innovador. Theo Colenbrander también hizo diseños para libros. Después de vivir en hoteles, pensiones y nunca casarse, se mudó en 1928 a Laag-Keppel donde murió a la edad de 89 años.
