This painting shows a typical Dutch river landscape as it can be found in the polders of the province of Utrecht around the river Vecht. Van Rossum du Chatel loved to paint in this region; it inspired him to paint to the extend that critics called him the ‘the painter of the Vecht’.
He belongs to the second generation of the Hague School.

Sobre el artista
La región del río Vecht en Utrecht inspiró a F.J. van Rossum du Chattel a pintar innumerables impresiones, hasta el punto de que los críticos lo llamaron "el pintor del Vecht". También pintó el paisaje alrededor de La Haya. Nacido en Leiden en 1856, recibió sus primeras lecciones de pintura de su padre, Jan Hendrik van Rossum du Chattel. Posteriormente asistió a la Teekenschool en La Haya y trabajó para el impresionista de La Haya Willem Maris en el estudio de este último. Aunque claramente moldeado por la Escuela de La Haya, Van Rossum du Chattel desarrollaría un estilo totalmente individual y reconocible.
