    Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff nació en Delft el 6 de agosto de 1867 y murió en Laren (NH) el 14 de octubre de 1949.

    Fue alumno de la Academia de BK en La Haya, después fue enseñado por BJ Blommers. Sijthoff pintó, acuareló, dibujó y litografió retratos, interiores y exteriores, paisajes urbanos y paisajes.

    Vivió y trabajó en Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Delft, Heeze, Amberes y Brujas y finalmente en Laren (NH).

    Fue miembro de 'St.Lucas' y 'Pulchri', el Círculo de Arte Holandés y la asociación de BK 'Laren-Blaricum'.

    Enseñó a su esposa Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk, AFAM Hiel y Maria Ch. J. Sterre de Jong.

    Vivía en Laren, en el número 8 de Tafelbergweg, en la villa 'Alberta'. (Libreta de direcciones: Laren-Blaricum1938)
